Running a hotel or a bustling guest house comes with an inevitable routine of early starts, chaotic breakfast rushes, and the occasional wildly specific guest request. This cartoon I drew captures that exact brand of hospitality chaos, featuring a packed hotel dining room right in the middle of morning service.
Right in the centre of the room, an eager member of staff has wheeled in a proper bed complete with an intensely embarrassed couple still tucked up inside. As the waiter looks on, the guest sheepishly admits: “OK, I admit – we did ASK for breakfast in bed…”
It's a lighthearted, slightly over-the-top nod to the service industry's absolute dedication to keeping guests happy – perhaps taken just a step too far.
For anyone operating a hotel or B&B, it's a familiar brand of humour that sums up those moments when unexpected guest expectations collide with the realities of day-to-day management. A bit of humour goes a long way when you're trying to keep the service running smoothly.
The design makes a nice conversation piece for staff rooms, receptions, or breakfast areas where anyone in the trade can appreciate the joke. Beyond prints, it's also available across a range of items like mugs and notebooks for those who enjoy a bit of hotel humour.
